Sidu is a traditional dish from himachal pradesh. Which is actually a steamed bun with some stuffing. Little time consuming but tastes awesome and healthy too. It is one of my favourite dishes.

Ingredients

2 people
  • For the dough
  • 2 cupmaida or all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp dry yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cupwarm water
  • 4 tbsp oil
  • For the filling
  • 100 gmchicken (boneless)
  • 1medium sized carrot grated
  • 1onion finely chopped
  • 2green chilli slitted
  • 4 clovesgarlic (crushed)
  • 1 inchginger(crushed)
  • As required Coriander stalks (optional)
  • To tasteSalt

Steps

  1. 1

    In a mixing bowl take warm water. Then add the yeast, sugar, salt and keep it aside for 5 mins so that the yeast can be activated.

    Add the all purpose flour or maida and make a dough. The should be little soft so that it can be raised further.

    Add 2 tblspn of oil on the dough and at the inner surface of the bowl so that the dough do not stick after it raised. Then cover the bowl with a lid and keep it in a warm place for atleast 1 hour.

    After 1 hour sprinkle some all purpose flour on the caounter top then take the dough and Knead it again till it become smooth. Add flour if required. Make some balls out of the dough and keep it aside.

  5. 5

    In a pan add water, chopped onion, crushed ginger and garlic, green chilli, salt, coriander stalks, and the chicken pieces. Now boil it on medium flame till the chicken pieces cook properly. When the chicken pieces leave oil turn of the flame.

    In a bowl shred the chicken pieces. Add chopped onion, carrot, salt and mix it properly. Take the balls and flattern it like a puri. Then add the stuffing to ond side of the circle and fold it from the other side to make a semi circle.

  7. 7

    Do the same with the other. Then boil water in a heavy bottomed pan and add a porous thali onto it. Then place the sidu and steam it for 10 mins.

  8. 8

    After 10 mins turn off the flame.

    Finally your sidu is ready to serve.
