Ingredients

60 minutes
For 4 people
  • forIdlies
  • 1 cup curd
  • 1 cup Rava (suji / semolina)
  • 10cashew nuts, broken into half
  • 10almonds broken in to half
  • 10-20 piecesraisins
  • 1 tsp Eno Fruit Salt
  • Forgrinding-
  • 2green chillies
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 2onions
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoonginger garlic paste
  • 1 teaspooncoriander powder
  • 1 teaspoonred chilli powder
  • 1/4 teaspoongaram masala
  • 1/2 teaspoonturmeric powder
  • to tastesalt
  • Totemper
  • 1/4 cupcoconut
  • 1/2 teaspoonfennel seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoonpoppy seeds / khus khus - (soaked)
  • 1cinnamon small piece
  • 2cloves
  • 1 bowlscrapped fresh coconut/nariyal
  • 2 piecesdried red chillies
  • 3-4pepper corns
  • 1 tablespoonroasted gram dal
  • 2 tablespoonsoil
  • forNariyal chutney
  • 1/2 bowlroasted skinned chana
  • 1 piece of ginger grated
  • 1-2green chillies
  • forGreen chutney
  • 1 bunchCoriander leaves
  • one inch pieceGinger
  • 2-4Green chillies
  • as per tasteSalt black salt cumin powder
  • 1 tablespoonLemon juice

Steps

60 minutes
  1. 1

    Heat ghee in a pan roast cashews and almonds with raisins and sauté for 30-40 seconds

  2. 2

    Add suji and curd in a bowl adjust water to make a batter like pakoras

  3. 3

    Keep it aside for 20 minutes
    Mix nuts and add salt again adjust water to make the batter to pouring consistency

  4. 4

    Just before steaming sprinkle fruit salt with 1tbsp water and mix lightly

  5. 5

    Grease the microwave safe idli maker

  6. 6

    Pour the batter into the cavities of greased microwave idli maker

  7. 7

    Microwave idlies for 4 mins or till the idlies are cooked

  8. 8

    After 4 minutes insert a toothpick in the middle of idli if it comes out clean then idlies are ready otherwise cook it again for 2 more mins

  9. 9

    After done give it 1 minute standing time

  10. 10

    Take out all the pieces with knife from the idli maker

  11. 11

    For Tomato kurma

  12. 12

    Chop onion, tomatoes and keep separately.

  13. 13

    Soak poppy seeds in hot water for 10 minutes.

  14. 14

    In a mixer jar, add all the ingredients given under "for grinding". Grind to a smooth paste.

  15. 15

    In a pan heat oil, add cinnamon and cloves, saute for a second.

  16. 16

    Add chopped onion, green chilies, ginger garlic paste and saute well till it turns light brownish in colour.

  17. 17

    Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, chilli powder and saute till the raw smell goes off.

  18. 18

    Add chopped tomatoes and saute well till it turns mushy and the raw smell of tomatoes goes off.

  19. 19

    Add little water and let it cook for some time.

  20. 20

    Add grounded coconut paste and garam masala.Mix well. Let it boil for some time.

    Add more water if the gravy is thick. Finally garnish with coriander leaves.

    For Nariyal chutney-

    Grind all the ingredients in to paste with sufficient water
    Temper with rai and curry leaves in 1 tsp oil
