Ingredients

  1. 500 gramcake flour (4 cups)
  2. 1 teaspoondry ginger powder
  3. 1 teaspooncinnamon powder
  4. 1 tspdried naartjie peel (optional)
  5. 1/2 teaspooncardamom powder
  6. 2 teaspoonsaniseed powder
  7. 1 packetinstant yeast
  8. 1/2 cupsugar
  9. 1 cuphot water
  10. 1 tablespoonbutter
  11. 1 cupcold milk
  12. 750 mlvegetable oil for frying
  13. Syrup
  14. 500ml water
  15. 250 ml sugar

Cooking Instructions

    Add the butter to the boiled water and stir until melted Add the milk and stir

  2. 2

    In a separate bowl add the flour, spices - cardamom powder, aniseed powder - sugar naartjie peel and yeast into a mixing bowl. Add the liquid mixture to the flour and mix to a soft dough. Set dough aside, covered, to rise until double in size

    Divide dough into approx 30 small balls on a slightly oiled surface.

    Heat oil in large saucepan. Once oil is hot gently pull koeksister into an oblong shape and fry each side until browned. Drain on absorbent paper.

    Sugar syrup mix water and sugar to make syrup. Heat slightly in a pot and keep warm.

  6. 6

    Keep syrup warm on stove and dip koeksister in warm syrup over stove cook -+- 2 minutues 
    Then dust with dessicated coconut..
    Keep in airtight tupperware
