Ingredients

  1. 1 cupUrad dal
  2. 2 cupsWater
  3. 5-6 podsgarlic
  4. 1 tbspgrated ginger
  5. 1onion chopped
  6. to tasteSalt
  7. 1 tspRed chilli powder
  8. 1 tspCoriander powder
  9. 1/2 tspTurmeric powder
  10. Green coriander for garnish
  11. Tomato 1, chopped
  12. 1 tablespoonGhee
  13. 1/4 tspZeera
  14. 1 pinchheeng

Steps

  1. 1

    Boil dal after washing nicely in exact double water than the quantity of dal
    Add salt, turmeric powder & hing in cooker while boiling.

  2. 2

    This dal doesn’t take much time for cooking so only one whistle is good.

  3. 3

    Make Tadka in a pan by adding zeera in ghee. When zeera turns brown add finely chopped garlic & ginger. Now add small cut onions. When they turn pink add masalas and chopped tomato.

  4. 4

    Cover for a few minutes to let tomato get done
    Remove the cover add green chilli
    Be sure that tadka is nicely done and isn’t much watery.

  5. 5

    Now open the cooker to take out dal
    Use light weight ladle as this dal gets mashed easily.

  6. 6

    Pour hot dal in a casserole n put Tadka over it.
    Mix gently
    Garnish with green coriander leaves(today I didn’t add)

  7. 7

    Cover casserole so that it remains hot.
    Serve with hot phulkies, parantha or naan.
