Steps

Wash the dal thoroughly. Pressure cook it to 2 whistles on a high flame.

Cut the bottle gourd. Pressure cook it also.

Grind the tomatoes and chillies. Make a fine paste.

In a wok, add oil. Now add a pinch of asafoetida, cumin, black pepper. Now add all the spices to the paste. Stir fry it till oil comes out.
Now add 2 tsp of water and add bottle gourd and gram dal. - 5
Cook it for a minute. Add water, as required.
