Steps

Clean, wash and soak the chana dal in water for four hours.

Drain the chana dal very well. There should be no water in the dal.

Take two tablespoons soaked dal and keep aside.

Add soaked chana dal in a mixer jar along with ginger, green chillies, curry leaves and cumin seeds and blend to a thick coarse paste without using water.

Transfer the dal mixture in a bowl.

Add salt, red chilli powder, chana dal and asafoetida in it. Mix well.

Heat oil in a pan.

Divide the mixture in to equal portions & roll each portion into round shape.

Press these balls between your palm.

Deep fry the vadas on medium flame, till they turn golden brown in colour.

Drain it on absorbent paper.

Serve with tomato sauce or green chutney.
