Heat oil in kadai,add both dal and roast lightly then add mustard seeds. As it start spluttering add chopped chilli and carrot. Saute for a while.

Add semolina and roast for 2 minutes. Transfer to other bowl to cool down.

In another bowl add curd, water, salt,turmeric and whisk it. Mix roasted semolina.cover the batter and let it rest for 10min.

Grease the idli plates. Add baking soda and mix it properly. Immediately transfer the batter to idli plates.

Steam for 8-10minutes on low to medium flame.let it cool for a while before demoulding it. Serve as breakfast or evening snack with coconut chuney.
