Wash toor dal thoroughly and cook upto 3 whistle

Finely chop onions and tomatoes. Slit green chillies

In a pan add oil and saute onions, tomatoes, green chillies and all the masala along with salt. Cover and cook until tomatoes are mushy.

Once done add the dal to the masala alone with cooked dal water and bring to boil.

Once it cooked. In a pan add oil, mustard seeds, vadagam and stamped garlic cook till golden brown. Add curry leaves and asafoetida. Add this tempering to the dal. Serve warm with rice and breads.
