Air-fry Calamari (Squid)

Squid is eaten in many cuisines; in English, the culinary name calamari is often used for squid dishes. There are many ways to prepare and cook squid. Fried squid is common in the Mediterranean. In Lebanon and Syria, however, it is served with tartar sauce. With my Version I use Air Fryer. No Oil needed. And I use vinegar for dip.

Steps

15 minutes
  1. 1

Soak the cleaned squid in milk to tenderize.

  2. 2

Use equal parts of flour and cornstarch for an unbelievably crunchy coating.

  3. 3

No oil needed Air Fryer temperature of 180F You want to brown and crisp the coating so as not to overcook the squid underneath. 15 minutes is estimated as long the bread turns to brown.

  4. 4

Do not overcrowd the pan and cook in batches as needed.

  5. 5

While the squid rings are fresh and hot from the fryer, season generously with garlic powder, salt, and freshly ground pepper or any of your favorite spice blends.

  6. 6

Serve with choice of dipping sauces such as spicy vinegar, tartar sauce and enjoy
