Satsuma-age was on sale. There's a high chance you'll find it marked down if you shop before noon.
"Hira-ten" is another word for satsuma-age.

If mixing the ingredients is a hassle, simply use mentsuyu (pre-made noodle sauce) .
Dilute the mentsuyu according to the directions, use 2 tablespoons of diluted mentsuyu.
The sauce is slightly on the sweet side, which is what makes it delicious(!), but also high in calories...
The sesame oil is a must. Recipe by Myoga no daidokoro

Ingredients

4 servings
  • 8Satsuma-age
  • 1Red chili peppers (sliced into rounds)
  • 1 dashSesame oil
  • For seasoning:
  • 1 tbspSake
  • 1 tbspSugar
  • 1 tbspSoy sauce
  • 1 tbspMirin

Steps

  1. 1

    [To prep:] Cut the satsuma-age into short sticks, place in a sieve and pour boiling water over to remove the excess oil.

  2. 2

    Heat the sesame oil and chili pepper over low heat until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the chili peppers.

    Once fragrant, add the satsuma-age. Stir-fry until light brown.

    Add the rest of the ingredients and mix. It's done when the liquid is cooked out.
