Ingredients

4 people
  • 250 gminced lamb / beef or combination of both
  • 2potatoes
  • 1 bagspinach
  • 1 canchopped tomatoes or 2 finely chopped fresh tomato
  • 1finely chopped white onion
  • 1 tbspginger and garlic paste (or 2 garlic cloves and a bit of ginger blitzed)
  • 1green chilli finely chopped (or blitzed with the garlic and ginger)
  • 1 tbsptomato puree
  • 1cinnamon stick
  • 2whole cloves
  • 1bay leaf
  • 1 tspturmeric
  • 1 tspcurry powder
  • 0.5 tspchilli powder
  • 1 tspgaram masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Some oil to fry
  • Chopped coriander to serve

Steps

    Heat some oil in pad with a lid and fry the dry ingredients (cloves, cinnamon stick, bay leaf) for 1 minute

    Add the chopped onion and stir for 30 seconds

    Add the ginger, garlic and green chilli and sauté on a low heat until the onions start to soften

    Add the chilli powder, curry powder, turmeric, garam masala and a generous pinch of salt and sauté for a few more minutes

    Add the meat and stir for 2 minutes

    Dice the potatoes and add to the pan

    Add the tomatoes, tomato puree and enough water to just cover the meat

    Cover and cook on a low heat for 15 to 20 minutes

    Add the spinach and stir through until wilted

    Check the meat is cooked and add salt if required. If there's still excess water, uncover and the boil water off
