Halwa, puri and chane, is a devine combination that is made at my home on the 8th day of Navratri, as ashtami prasad, and today was no exception to that.

I decided to make the halwa this time, and made the simplest one at that. No excessive dried fruits or coconut, no requirement of sugar syrup or too much desi ghee.

Just simple and delicious sooji halwa prasad.

Ingredients

20 mins
2-3 servings
  • 1 cupsooji
  • 1/2 cupdesi ghee
  • 1.25 cupwater
  • 3/4 cupsugar
  • 1/2 tspelaichi powder
  • For garnish
  • Chopped almonds
  • Dried rose petals
  • Chopped pistachios

Steps

    In a pan, first dry roast sooji and then put desi ghee.

    Roast the sooji with ghee, till golden brown.

    Add sugar to the roasted sooji and mix.

    Cook for 2-3 mins on low flame, till the sugar starts to dissolve.

    Once the sugar starts to dissolve, add in the water and cardamom powder.

    Cook on medium heat for 7-8 mins, till the sooji absorbs all the water. Check for sugar at this step, if it feels less, then adjust according to your taste.

    Transfer to a bowl, garnish with dried fruits and rose petals. Serve.
