Ingredients

Approx 1 hour altogether
3 - 4 servings
  1. 1 tbspolive oil
  2. Knobbutter
  3. 1large fennel bulb
  4. 200 gchard or spinach
  5. 1large clove garlic, crushed
  6. Dry white wine
  7. 3 tbspcream
  8. 3 tbspbreadcrumbs
  9. 2ozs grated cheese of your choice
  10. Grated nutmeg

    Heat oven to 190 C. Heat oil and butter, add the fennel (thinly sliced) and cook gently for 15 - 20 mins until lightly browned.

    Meanwhile, boil the chard or spinach for 3 - 4 minutes, rinse, drain very well, squeeze out excess water, and chop.

    Add the garlic to the fennel, cook for a couple of minutes. Then add the chard, a splash of wine, the cream and a little nutmeg. Mix well, heat through and season. Put the drained beans in an ovenproof dish, top with the fennel mixture, then the grated cheese and breadcrumbs. Bake for 20 - 30 minutes until the topping is golden.
