Bisi bele bath is a delicious and healthy dish made from rice, lentils and vegetables. It is one of the most popular traditional dish from the Karnataka cuisine. It's a complete one pot meal, so you don't need any side dish.

For bisi bele bath masala, dry roast all listed masalas in a pan.

Roast on low flame without burning the spices.

When roasted spices are cooled completely, transfer to the mixer jar, add ½ tsp turmeric and blend to a fine powder.

Soak toor dal in water for 20 minutes.

In a pressure cooker take toor dal, rice, water and salt.

Add turmeric, 1 tsp oil and pressure cook for 5 whistles.

Keep aside cooked rice and lentils.

In a large kadahi heat 2 tbsp oil and splutter mustard, peanuts.

Fry for a minute, then add chopped onion.

Fry for 2 minutes, now add chopped veggies.

Add salt and saute until the vegetables soften.

Now add 3 cup water and boil until the vegetables are cooked well.

Add tamarind extract and boil well.

Add bisi bele bath masala, chilli powder and saute until the spices are well cooked.

Add cooked rice-dal, water and mix well adjusting the consistency.

Cover and simmer until the flavours are absorbed well.

Fry cashews and dry red chilli in oil, pour over cooked bisi bele bath and serve hot.
