Bhatura is a type of fried flat bread. It is very much popular and famous in the Northern part of India which is usually served with chhole or chick peas. Chhole is a Punjabi dish which tastes delicious served with bhatura. Bhatura is made using all purpose flour. It can be prepared using different methods like sometimes yeast, baking powder, baking soda or eno is added to the flour. I have used baking powder, baking soda and yoghurt to prepare this delicious dish. It is a dish which can be served as breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

  • 2 cupsall purpose flour
  • 2 tbspsemolina
  • 1/2 tspbaking powder
  • 1/8 tspbaking soda
  • 1 tspsalt
  • 1 tbspoil
  • 4 tbspyoghurt
  • 1/2 cupwater
  • Oil to fry

Steps

  1. 1

    Add all purpose flour, semolina, baking powder, baking soda, salt, yoghurt and oil to a bowl and mix everything well. Now start adding little water at a time and make a medium consistency dough which is not very soft or very stiff. Knead it for some time. Cover it and leave it for 2 hours.

    After 2 hours, divide the dough into 8 equal portions. Now take one portion and roll it in your hand to make a ball. Apply little oil on the surface where you are rolling it and even on the rolling pin. Now roll medium thick bhatura into round or oval shape.

  3. 3

    Heat oil in a pan. When oil is hot, slide a bhatura slowly from the side to the oil. When it comes on top press it lightly with the slotted spoon and let it puff up. Now flip it over and fry it until pink on both sides. You can keep rolling and frying bhatura at the same time. Prepare all the bhatura in the same way.

    Serve hot bhatura with chhole as breakfast, lunch or dinner.
