Firstly, in a large bowl take rice and moong dal for 10 minutes.

Heat 1 tsp ghee in a cooker and add soaked dal and rice.

Saute for 2 minutes or till the dal turns aromatic.

Now add turmeric, salt and water. Cover and pressure cook for 5 minutes..

Heat 2 tbsp ghee, add cumin seeds, bay leaf and a pinch of hing.

Fry on low heat till the spices become fragrant.

Now add onion, ginger garlic paste and stir well.

Add tomato, stir till the tomatoes turns soft.

Add all spices and salt. Fry for 2 minutes or till the spices turns aromatic.

Now add cooked rice and dal.

Add 1 cup water or as required. Mix well.

Cover and simmer for 5 minutes or till the flavors are well absorbed.

In tadka pan heat ghee, add finely chopped garlic, saute till it turns golden brown, do not burn. Add kashmiri red chilli powder and dry red chilli, saute for a second. Off flame immediately.

Pour this tempering to prepared khichdi.

Finally, add coriander leaves and enjoy dal khichdi with pickle and curd.
