Chicken Momo Recipe

Royal Recipe
Royal Recipe @royalrecipe

Momo is a traditional dish from Nepal that is loved by people all over the world. The dish originated in the Himalayan region of Nepal and has since become a popular street food and a staple at family gatherings and special occasions. The recipe I shared is a variation of the traditional recipe, which typically uses ground beef or yak meat. This recipe uses ground chicken, making it a more accessible option for people who may not have access to traditional meats. One of the things that makes momo special is the unique combination of flavors and textures. The ground chicken filling is seasoned with ginger, garlic, soy sauce, vinegar, and sugar, creating a savory and slightly sweet flavor. The dough is soft and chewy, and the combination of the filling and the dough creates a perfect balance of flavors in every bite. Momo is also a comfort food for many people in Nepal. It's often enjoyed with friends and family as a casual meal, and is a popular street food that can be found in almost every corner of Nepal. It's a food that brings people together and is a symbol of Nepali culture and tradition. It is also a favorite food among Nepalese diaspora, who miss the taste of home and enjoy the taste of momo in different countries. Overall, momo is a delicious and comforting dish that is steeped in Nepali culture and tradition. It's a dish that can be enjoyed by everyone and is a great way to experience the flavors of Nepal.

Steps

120 mins
  1. 1

In a large bowl, mix together ground chicken, chopped onion, minced garlic, ginger paste, soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, salt, and pepper.

  2. 2

In a separate bowl, mix together the flour and water to form a dough. Knead the dough until smooth.

  3. 3

Take a small amount of the dough and roll it into a circle about 3-4 inches in diameter.

  4. 4

Place a spoonful of the chicken mixture in the center of the dough circle.

  5. 5

Fold the edges of the dough up and around the filling, pleating them to seal in the filling. Repeat until all the dough and filling are used.

  6. 6

Heat a pan with oil over medium heat.

  7. 7

Gently place the momos in the hot oil and fry until they are golden brown, about 3-4 minutes on each side.

  8. 8

Remove from the oil and drain on a paper towel.

  9. 9

Serve with your favorite dipping sauce. Enjoy!

  10. 10

You can also steam the momos instead of frying. To steam, place the momos in a steamer basket and steam for 10-12 minutes or until cooked through.
