Hello! I previously shared a special recipe of (baked) Air Fried Rice Cake/Tikoy and it was top billing during this recent Chinese NY (Lunar NY) 🫶 so I thought I’d also share the ordinary way of enjoying Tikoy in Filipino homes. 😊

Ingredients

  1. 1 boxChinese Rice Cake
  2. 1egg
  3. Dashsalt
  4. Cooking oil

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Go to the Asian store before, during or after Chinese NY / Lunar NY and get yourself a box of rice cake, or “tikoy”.

Got 2 at buy 1-get 1 free end of January hehe.

  2. 2

Slice in rectangular shapes, thin or thick, up to you. Thin cooks quicker.

  3. 3

Beat an egg and add a dash of salt.

  4. 4

Dunk each tikoy slice in the beaten egg and cook in a pan with heated oil.

  5. 5

Flip to the other side once the egg coating is lightly brown/golden.

  6. 6

The tikoy should become soft once cooked, fish out when both sides are golden.

  7. 7

Enjoy as a snack or dessert. Best eaten while hot, but delicious too at room temperature. The egg becomes like a semi-crisp coating. :)

  8. 8
