Sauté the onion, garlic, and carrots in vegetable oil until softened. Add the rinsed lentils and rice, stir briefly, then add water, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Let everything cook until tender, then blend the soup until smooth.

Melt the butter and stir in the paprika. Remove from heat and pour half of this mixture into the soup, stir, and turn off the heat.

Serve the soup topped with the remaining melted butter and paprika mixture, and garnish with toasted bread cubes.
