Wash and soak split chick peas for four to five hours.

Drain chick peas dal remove all water and grind it with ginger and green chilies coarsely

Heat pan, add oil, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, turmeric powder one by one. After mustard seeds crackle, add chili powder and ground dal.

Mix well with spoons now cook it on low flame.

Cover the pan with lid, stir frequently and cover again. It will take approximately 10 minutes to cook.

Now add salt and mix well.

Add chopped coriander leaves, sugar and lemon juice and again mix well.

Take out the cooked split chick pea in a serving bowl garnish it with fresh grated coconut and coriander leaves.

Serve hot or at room temperature.
