Ingredients

20 minutes
2 to 4 persons
  1. 1 cupsplit chick peas
  2. 2green chillies
  3. 1/2 inch ginger
  4. For tempering
  5. 2 tbsp oil
  6. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds,
  7. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds,
  8. 1/4 tsp asafoetida,
  9. 1/4tsp turmeric powder and few curry leaves
  10. 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  11. 1/2tsp salt or according to taste
  12. 1 tsp sugar
  13. 1/2 lemon juice
  14. 1/2 cup washed and chopped coriander leaves
  15. 1tbsp fresh grated coconut for garnishing

Steps

20 minutes
  1. 1

    Wash and soak split chick peas for four to five hours.

  2. 2

    Drain chick peas dal remove all water and grind it with ginger and green chilies coarsely

  3. 3

    Heat pan, add oil, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, turmeric powder one by one. After mustard seeds crackle, add chili powder and ground dal.

  4. 4

    Mix well with spoons now cook it on low flame.

  5. 5

    Cover the pan with lid, stir frequently and cover again. It will take approximately 10 minutes to cook.

  6. 6

    Now add salt and mix well.

  7. 7

    Add chopped coriander leaves, sugar and lemon juice and again mix well.

  8. 8

    Take out the cooked split chick pea in a serving bowl garnish it with fresh grated coconut and coriander leaves.

  9. 9

    Serve hot or at room temperature.
