New Year’s Day Black Eyed Peas

Folk Lore: Black Eyed Peas on New Year’s Day brings good luck for the entire year. My Granny used to drop a new penny (washed of course) into the pot of black eyes before serving, saying whoever got the penny would have a pocket full for the year. She never said what the pocket would be full of though. Back then, my pockets were usually full of pretty rocks that I’d find. #GoldenApron23

New Year’s Day Black-Eyed Peas New Year’s Day Black-Eyed Peas
I love black-eyed peas any time of the year, but they’re part of the traditional meal around our house on New Years Day. This is one of those recipes where “to taste” matters! Most folks ignore this step. I’ma taster myself, I start out with minimal seasoning, taste it, add a little bit of this or that.My hubby doesn’t particularly care/like them, he’ll eat a bite “for tradition”. Lol. I found this recipe a few years ago, justa tad different from what I normally fix, his response…those are better than what you’ve fixed before! 🙃 Sonya Bankester -

I used this recipe from a wonderful site I use a lot. I revised to my families liking, but here is the link. My son does not like greens. However, next time, I'm gonna have him pick them out. Because it sounds so good with greens in there :) Happy cooking!https://minimalistbaker.com/smoky-instant-pot-black-eyed-peas-greens-vegan/#wprm-recipe-container-72311 Mara Michelle -

Easy Black Eyed Peas with Rice Easy Black Eyed Peas with Rice
I made this after researching various recipes. Even in America, I make traditional Japanese New Year's food, so I don't make this for the New Year, but since it's so easy, I make it when I'm in the mood on other days.If you don't have chicken stock, use 500 ml water and 2 teaspoons granulated chicken soup.It will probably also taste delicious made with just water or with Japanese-style dashi soup stock.Decreasing the amount of chicken stock and adding canned diced tomatoes will also taste great. Black Eyed Peas & Ham Black Eyed Peas & Ham
Super good comfort food! To reduce the sodium, use water instead of broth. The ham brings plenty of flavor. jzkerr87
