Grandma's apple stack cake is moist and rich with warm spices. This recipe was originally an Appalachian wedding cake.

Ingredients

  1. 1 cupCrisco
  2. 2 cupsbrown sugar
  3. 4large eggs
  4. 1 1/2 tspcinnamon
  5. 1 tspvanilla
  6. 1/2 tspbaking soda
  7. 5 cupsSelf rising flour
  8. Cooked, reconstituted, dried apples and/or apple butter
  9. Heat oven to 350°

Cooking Instructions

    Cream together
    brown sugar, Crisco, eggs, cinnamon, and vanilla

  2. 2

    Add 1/2 tsp baking soda
    Add enough self rising flour to make the consistency of biscuit dough

  3. 3

    Split into 8 balls, press into greased pans

  4. 4

    Bake at 350° for 10-12 min

  5. 5

    Put hot, cooked, dried apples between layers

  6. 6

    Let cool, refrigerate for 24 hrs before serving
