Pour 1/2 cup of milk in a bowl and add egg, vanilla essence and vegetable oil in it. Pour in some warm milk if necessary to keep the consistency of the batter thin.

Make the dry ingredients in another portion : Add flour, sugar (granulated or crushed) or brown sugar, baking powder in a container and mix them properly. Keep in mind that you can add warm milk through out this step.

Mix together the dry ingredients with the first step recipe gradually. Add the dry ingredients gradually and mix them all the way through the batter until there are not any lumps left.

Pre-heat a frying pan on medium heat. Hold 1 tbsp of the batter in the pan and flip to the other side before the bubbles forming on the surface. Keep the colour light brown instead of dark brown or over cooking the pancakes.
