Samak rice also known as barnyard millet can be consumed during 'vrat' (fasting) as it helps in maintaining the energy level of the fasting person.
Steps

Heat ghee in a pan. Add the samak rice and roast on low heat for 5-7 minutes or until golden brown.

Add cardamom powder, charoli and chopped almonds, pistachios, cashew nuts.
Add warm water and stir constantly to avoid lumps. - 3
Cover and cook for a few minutes until the water evaporates. Also the rice will be soft or almost cooked. Then add warm milk and cook till the milk is absorbed.

If the rice is uncooked, add 3-5 tablespoon of additional warm water if necessary. Add jaggery or sugar to it and mix.

Cook for 2-3 minutes or until jaggery melts and mixes well.

Turn off the gas. Serve and enjoy Samak Halwa.
