Ingredients

Makes 12 taiyaki
  1. 1 2/3 cupspancake mix (about 200g)
  2. 3 tablespoonspotato starch (about 20g)
  3. scant 1/2 cup milk (about 100ml)
  4. scant 1/2 cup water (about 100ml)
  5. as neededSweet red bean paste or custard,

Steps

    Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and mix until smooth with no lumps.

    Preheat the taiyaki maker and lightly coat it with vegetable oil (not included in ingredient list).

    Spoon the batter into the mold, filling it about 60% full and spreading it evenly.

    Add your choice of sweet red bean paste or custard in the center.

    Pour more batter over the filling until it is just covered, close the lid, and cook for 4–5 minutes.

    When the taiyaki turns golden brown, it's ready!
