I had some garlic chives left over and was thinking of ways to use them. By mixing them into chicken meatballs, I thought it would give a yakitori dish a bit of a Chinese or dumpling-like flavor, so I decided to try it.

Finely chop the garlic chives.

In a bowl, mix together the egg, ground chicken, garlic chives, ginger, salt, and panko breadcrumbs.

Divide the mixture into 4 portions and shape each into an oval patty. Coat each patty lightly with potato starch.

Heat a little vegetable oil (not listed in ingredients) in a skillet and cook the patties on both sides until browned.

Once the patties are cooked through, add the sauce ingredients (mirin, soy sauce, sugar) mixed together, and coat the patties with the sauce.

Serve the meatballs on a plate with your choice of vegetables on the side.
