Ingredients

Serves 1 serving
  1. 1pork cutlet (tonkatsu)
  2. 1egg
  3. 1/4onion
  4. 1 tablespoon (15 ml)soy sauce
  5. 1 tablespoon (15 ml)mirin
  6. 1 teaspoonsugar
  7. 1/2 teaspooninstant dashi powder
  8. 1/3 cupwater (about 70 ml)
  9. Green onions, to taste

Cooking Instructions

    Buy a pork cutlet or fry one yourself.

    In a small saucepan, combine the soy sauce and mirin. Bring to a boil to cook off the alcohol, then add the water, sugar, and dashi powder.

    Once it comes back to a boil, add the sliced onion and pork cutlet. Simmer briefly. When the onion is tender, pour in the lightly beaten egg.

    Sprinkle with green onions. When the egg is cooked to your liking, it’s done. Serve over rice for katsudon!
