A fluffy bread crust filled with lots of gooey vegetables and cheese. The excitement when cutting into it is amazing! The origin of this recipe: I had an irresistible craving for a thick Chicago pizza that overflows with toppings and cheese when cut, so I just had to make it!
Steps
- 1
Make the bread dough. Add the bread ingredients to the bread machine in the order listed and let it rise for the first time.
- 2
Meanwhile, prepare the filling. Cut the vegetables and ham to your preferred size and sauté in a frying pan. Do not season, as the cheese will add saltiness.
- 3
Once softened, transfer half to a bowl, add pizza sauce and garlic powder, and mix to complete the tomato-flavored filling!
- 4
For the remaining filling, add butter and flour, heat again, and gradually add milk to make a slightly thicker consistency than a gratin. This is the gratin-style filling!
- 5
After the first rise, reshape the dough, place it seam-side down in a large bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise a second time at 104°F for about 20 minutes.
- 6
While the dough is rising, line a cake pan with parchment paper. Since the dough will rise, set the paper higher.
- 7
When the dough has doubled in size and a finger poked into it leaves a hole that doesn't close, the rise is complete! Dust with flour and cut in half.
- 8
Divide the halved dough again: 1/3 for the bottom, 2/3 for the sides.
- 9
Roll out the dough with a rolling pin...
- 10
Line the pan with the rolled-out dough, pressing the bottom and side dough together with your fingers to seal.
- 11
Once the dough is lined, fill alternately with the prepared fillings and cheese, finishing with a generous layer of cheese. Two flavors are ready: tomato and cream.
- 12
Preheat the oven to 392°F. Let the dough rest while preheating, then bake on a baking sheet for 20 minutes.
- 13
It's done! Carefully remove from the pan and place on a plate.
- 14
Cut with a knife...
- 15
The bread is fluffy, and it's packed with toppings and cheese. Enjoy it hot! ❤️
