Ingredients

20 minutes
10 servings
  1. 1 cupurad daal (black gram)
    Vitamin Rich Carrots and Lentils Appe
  2. 1/2 cupchana daal (bengal gram)
    Skimmed Milk and Rice Payasam
  3. 1 teaspoonrice
  4. 1 inchtamarind piece
  5. 20curry leaves
  6. 1 teaspoonsesame seeds
  7. 1 teaspoonsesame oil
  8. 1 teaspoonsalt or as per taste
  9. 1 teaspoonjaggery powder
  10. 6dry red chillies
  11. 1/2 teaspoonjeera

Steps

20 minutes
  1. 1

    First, dry roast the daals and rice on medium flame for 2 minutes.

    Add curry leaves, red chillies, jeera, sesame seeds, and slow roast till golden brown.

    Then switch off the heat and transfer to a clean and dry plate. Then heat oil in a pan. Add the tamarind piece and roast till crispy. Add to the daal mixture.

    Mix the tamarind in the daal mix and lastly add hing and salt as per taste. Then mix jaggery powder and cool to room temperature.

    Then grind in a mixer the a slightly coarse powder. Your idli dosa chutney powder or Kara Podi is ready. Store in dry glass airtight containers and enjoy for at least a month outside the refrigerator and in refrigerator for 2 months.
