During the winter season, you can find fresh jowar grains. Today, I made a delicious upma using them.
Steps
- 1
Add 1 cup (240 ml) water to a pressure cooker, wash the jowar thoroughly, and add it in. Cook for 6 whistles.
- 2
Once the pressure releases, open the lid. In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, green chili, finely chopped onion, and carrot. When the onion turns golden, add finely chopped tomato and the dry spices.
- 3
Add the boiled jowar and mix well. Add another cup (240 ml) of water and cook on low heat until the jowar is soft and all the water is absorbed.
- 4
Garnish the hot jowar upma with fresh cilantro and lemon.
- 5
Squeeze lemon juice and add cilantro, mix well, and enjoy the hot jowar upma.
- 6
This is a great breakfast option during the winter season.
