Firstly wash the moong dal and soak for 10 minutes. Heat 1 tablespoon of ghee in a pressure cooker and add cumin seeds, asafoetida, bay leaves, cloves, cinnamon and saute for few seconds.

Now add chopped onion to the pressure cooker and saute it. Then add carrot and ginger and mix it. Then add the soaked moong dal and add turmeric and salt. Add 1 cup of water and cover with lid the cooker and cook on low flame for 2 whistles.

After pressure release and the cooker cools down, remove all the whole spices. After the dal cools down, add 1 cup of water (1/2 cup more if needed), grind it finely.

Now take the ground dal in a pan. heat it in slow flame. again add salt, water as required and add pepper powder. Now let the dal soup boil for 5 to7 minutes. To serve hot moong dal soup, take it in a bowl and garnish with cream, mint leaves and pepper powder.
