Had these many years ago in Turkey, so easy to make and you can add any topping you like including some veg and the kids love them - easy to make and reheat for lunch or snack a a great dinner. ENJOY :P
Steps
- 1
Add the water salt, yeast and sugar together. Mix with a fork, rest for about 10-12 minutes until bubbles appear on top.
- 2
Add egg and Yogurt and mix again to combine. Add to bowl of stand mixer and carefully add flour. mix with dough hook until all combined then kneed for about 2-3 mins until a smooth ball formed - you may need to add a little extra flour - the bowl should be nearly clean sides.
- 3
Transfer to a clean bowl - cover with cling film and allow to rise for about 1 hour until at least doubled in size.
- 4
Use a non stick frying pan Over medium heat add butter and olive oil until butter melts. Add the meat and cook for about 5 mins breaking it up so no lumps. Add the Chopped Peppers, and cook for another 4 mins.
- 5
Add the tomatoes, Carrots and grated onion and then the tomatoe paste and ketchup and Paprika. cook for another 5-7 mins until most of the liquid has been absorbed. Carefully taste and add salt and pepper. cover and let cool completely.
- 6
Heat oven to 220C (200 if fan). Take the Dough and divide into 4 and shape into balls. Then on a floured work surface roll out to make about 14" long shapes.
- 7
Transfer to a lined baking sheet (2 per sheet) it is easier to shape them in place. Then Add some egg wash around the side, then roll up the sides into a Boat Shape, you need to really press down at the points.
- 8
Add the cooled meat mixture, and push down a little into the middle to make a well. Egg wash the dough then Bake in middle of oven for 7 mins. Then carefully add the egg and put back in oven for another 7-8 mins until egg is cooked and crust is golden brown.
- 9
Allow to cool a little then serve or can rap in foil and slightly reheat for later (id they last the long) lol you can add any you favourite topings - I like baby tomatoes cut in half with cheese as well. ENJOY :)
