Laab Het

Laab Het is basically the vegetarian cousin of Laab—a Thai dish known for its bright, herbaceous, and spicy flavors. Instead of using meat, this version swaps in mushrooms (het means mushroom in Thai), which soak up all the tangy, umami goodness of the dressing. It’s just as bold and flavorful as the classic, but with a juicier bite from the mushrooms. If you’re looking for a plant-based Laab that still delivers on flavor, this is it! To make it fully vegan, opt for soy sauce instead of fish sauce.

Roughly chop the herbs, shallots, and chilis.
- 4
Once water is boiling, add the mushrooms and cook for about 3-4 minutes.

- 6
While the mushrooms are still hot, add shallots, fish sauce, chilis, chili flakes, and sugar. Mix together.
- 7
Add lime juice, Khao Khua (toasted rice powder), and herbs. Give it another mix to ensure everything is evenly distributed.
- 8
Top with additional Khao Khua for crunch and Thai chilis for color & heat. Enjoy!

Laab Pizza Laab Pizza
If you’ve ever thought, “what if Laab was a pizza?” then you’re in the right place. This recipe takes everything I love about Laab and puts it on a sheet pan crust with a creamy Thai-inspired white sauce underneath. This recipe uses store-bought raw pizza dough to make prep easier, but if you're feeling adventurous, feel free to make your own! It’s bold, herby, and satisfying in every bite, definitely not your average pizza night. Kasey Coffey -
Laab chicken - a Thai classic Laab chicken - a Thai classic
Laab Chicken (also spelled Larb Chicken) is a classic dish from northeastern Thailand packed with flavors that are refreshing, tangy, umami, and just the right amount of spice.Laab is traditionally enjoyed with sticky rice (and eaten with your hands!), it’s a dish that’s both comforting and vibrant. The toasted rice powder adds a subtle nuttiness, but you can skip it if you prefer a simpler version.Though I grew up in southern Thailand, Laab has always been a nostalgic favorite for me. It’s incredibly easy to make and can be adapted to your taste—more tangy, less spicy, however you like! While ground chicken is my favorite way to make it, you can also make it with ground pork or ground turkey for a different twist. Enjoy it with jasmine rice or wrap it in crisp lettuce cups for a lighter option. Miriam Hershman -

Latke Latke
I modified a recipe that was included in a JCCRI (a Rhode Island Jewish school) newsletter. Their version used a lot of oil to make a deep-fried styled of latke and used a lot of obscure Kosher seasonings that I omitted. I then reduced the amount of flour and added some grated potato. My daughter once attended an Israeli Jewish school for about a year. The curriculum is based around Jewish beliefs and practices, which were completely new to her. Out of the recipes that we were taught, this was my favourite. Recipe by Munchkin's Mom cookpad.japan -
