Steps
- 1
The batter should be thick but slightly runny. Pour it into a tall glass and let it rest for about 5 minutes.
- 2
Preheat the oil over medium heat. To check if it's ready, drop a little batter in; if it immediately starts to cook and float, it's hot enough.
- 3
Assemble the corn dogs by inserting a skewer into each hot dog. You can also alternate pieces of cheese and hot dog on the skewer if you like.
- 4
Dip the entire corn dog into the batter, turning it as you remove it to coat evenly. Fry in the oil for about 1 to 2 minutes per side, until golden brown on both sides.
- 5
When you take them out of the oil, let them rest on paper towels—first laying them horizontally, then standing them up vertically to drain well.
- 6
Serve with ketchup and mayonnaise. You can also serve them with rice or, as I did here, with buttery spaghetti.
