Steps
- 1
Assemble all the ingredients.
- 2
For Dhokli : In a plate / thali take whole wheat flour, add all the dry spices, salt & kasuri methi. Rub in oil.
- 3
Make a soft dough using water as required. Rest the dough for 10 minutes.
- 4
Now roll into thin & big chapati with the help of a little dry flour. Cook the chapati on hot tawa till half done.Do not over cook the rotisBe careful that brown spots do not appear on the chapati or they will turn hard.
- 5
Set the theplas aside to cool.Once cool, cut these theplas in diamond shape. Cover & set aside till further use.
- 6
Dal : Take the leftover dal in a pan. Add 1 glass of water & boil it on slow flame. Add boiled peanuts & dry dates. Add all the dry spices, salt, jaggery, kokum & dry dates.Boil for 15 minutes. Switch off the flame & cover & keep aside.
- 7
How to proceed : Just before serving, boil the dal again. Add diamond shaped dhokli one by one in it slowly. Stir the dal occasionally so dhokli doesn't stick at the bottom.
- 8
Cook the dhokli in the boiling dal for 5 minutes.
- 9
Prepare the tempering of ghee. Add mustard seeds, curry leaves, cloves, cinnamon stick, dry red chilli, grated garlic & asafoetida. Let them cook for 1/2 a minute. Pour this tempering on the hot dal dhokli. Leave a little tempering for garnish.
- 10
Serve immediately with little tempering on top & onions & coriander. Relish this piping hot Dal Dhokli & enjoy your Sunday meal.
- 11
Note : Set the consistency of the dal dhokli as per your choice. On cooling, dal dhokli tends to thicken, so add hot water accordingly. Also cook the dhokli in dal only nearing serving time or the dal dhokli will thicken & adding extra hot water will make it blend & the taste will change.Keep stirring the dal dhokli while it is getting cooked or the dhokli will stick at the bottom.
