Magic with Leftover Dal – Restaurant-Style Dal Tadka at Home
For this week's theme, "Turn Leftovers into Delights," I made restaurant-style dal tadka using leftover dal. Instead of throwing away leftover dal, I turned it into a flavorful restaurant-style dish! This recipe transforms simple food into something special – homemade taste with a restaurant touch.
Steps
- 1
First, take the leftover dal out of the fridge. Finely chop the onions, tomato, green chilies, cilantro, and green bell pepper.
- 2
Heat ghee in a pan. Add asafoetida and cumin seeds. Add ginger-garlic paste, green bell pepper, and green chilies, and sauté for 3 minutes. Add onions and cook until golden brown.
- 3
Add the spice paste and sauté, then add the tomato. Cook until the tomato softens.
- 4
Add the leftover dal. If needed, add a little water and bring to a boil. Add salt to taste and cook for 5 minutes. For the final tempering, heat a little ghee, add red chili powder and some cumin seeds, and pour this over the dal.
- 5
Your restaurant-style dal tadka is ready! Top with cilantro and a little ghee, and serve hot with roti or rice.
- 6
Every homemaker brings abundance to the home — making the best use of leftovers is not just kitchen wisdom, but a sign of smartness.
