Chocolate Bread

It's hard for me to find cocoa powder that isn't super expensive, so I tried this recipe using chocolate melted in warm milk instead.

Steps
- 1
In a bowl, beat 1/2 cup vegetable oil, 1/2 stick margarine, and 1 1/2 cups sugar together until well combined, as shown in the picture.
- 2
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Let it heat for about 30 minutes. If your oven uses Celsius, convert the temperature as needed. Don’t worry if you finish a little before or after the timer ends—the important thing is the oven stays hot.
- 3
Add 4 eggs and 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, then beat again until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
- 4
Add 1 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon baking soda.
- 5
IMPORTANT: Sift the following ingredients (preferably using a metal strainer): flour and baking powder.
- 6
Next, add 1 teaspoon sifted baking powder and beat.
- 7
OPTIONAL: If you have cocoa powder, sift it in at this step as well.
- 8
Gradually add 1 1/4 cups sifted flour and 1 cup milk, alternating between the two and beating after each addition until all is incorporated.
- 9
Heat 1 cup milk until warm. Add your chocolate to the milk and stir with a spoon until the milk turns chocolatey.
- 10
Pour the chocolate milk into your batter and beat for a few minutes. (The brown specks you see are nuts that were in the chocolate.)
- 11
Grease your baking pans so the bread doesn’t stick. I use margarine because it’s cheap and tastes good, but you can use nonstick spray or parchment paper if you prefer.
- 12
Fill your pan about 2/3 full.
- 13
Bake at 350°F for 25 minutes.
