Koottu Curry or Koottu Curry is a simple yet a flavourful and a refreshing side that can be enjoyed at mealtimes. To put it in simple terms, it is same as another dish from the grind Vegetarian feast Kerala Sadya called Erissery. In Erissery, Lobia or Red Cowpeas are used. Whereas in Koottu Curry, Black Chickpeas or Kala Chana are used. The making process is also almost similar except for the use of Black Pepper which is not much of a big difference at all.
This one is a delicious and an aromatic Sadya special dish made during Onam celebrations. It is a healthy side that can be enjoyed with some freshly steamed Rice at mealtimes on any given day. It also tastes great with Pooris too. It's a semi thick dry Curry but not too dry either. It is on the softer side and can be relished with both Rice and Rotis. A perfect accompaniment at mealtimes. This is sure to impress all. No fancy ingredients and simple cooking method is what makes this beautiful dish more beautiful.
In this variation, Chow Chow or Chayote is being used with Yellow Split Lentils or Moong Daal. A lovely side with a healthy Vegetable. It is also a way lot delicious and flavourful too.
