Chocolate Toffee Bark

Chocolate bark is a classic holiday recipe in the States. This recipe has been in my family for years!
I remember the first time when I tasted it I thought I hadn’t tasted anything so delicious before! I asked the mom who brought this bark to my daughter’s preschool holiday potluck and she shared her recipe with me!
I’ve been making this every year since! Well over 20 years!

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.

Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer on the tray.

Melt butter and sugar together in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir gently until melted, then bring to a boil.

Pour the hot butter-sugar mixture evenly over the crackers. Gently spread with a spatula.

Bake for 10 minutes, until golden and slightly bubbling. This is your toffee layer.

Remove from oven. Immediately pour chocolate chips over the hot toffee layer. Wait 1–2 minutes for chips to melt.

Gently spread melted chocolate with a spatula over the entire surface of the toffee.

(Optional) Add toppings if desired.

Cool completely, then refrigerate until set. Break into pieces and enjoy.
Tips
Using salted butter enhances the flavor. Be gentle when spreading the chocolate to avoid disturbing the crackers.
Keep an airtight container, in the fridge.
