Garelu as breakfast is an integral part of Ugadi and Telegu New Year. Telegu New Year is today and I wish all our Telegu Chefs a Happy Telegu New Year.

Garelu is traditionally made with Urad Dal but I made with black eyed peas and it’s given a distinctive flavour. I’ve paired with Natu Kodi Pulusu which is spicy Chicken curry

Ingredients

Prep time -10 mins, Soak-3 hrs, Cooking-15 mins
2-3 servings
  1. 1/2 cupBlack eyed peas
  2. 4-5green chillies
  3. 1 sprigcoriander leaves
  4. 1” ginger chopped
  5. 1/4 tspsalt
  6. 1/2 cupoil to fry
  7. Serve with Naatu Kodi Pulusu or Spicy Chicken curry

Steps

Prep time -10 mins, Soak-3 hrs, Cooking-15 mins

    Soak Black eyed peas for3 hours after a wash. Drain and add to a blender

    Add chopped green chillies, salt, chopped coriander leaves, ginger and blend coarse without adding water

    Make balls and give shape of a Garelu

    In a pan heat oil and add the Garelu and fry on medium flame golden - set aside

    Serve with Naatu Kodi Pulusu and enjoy 😊

Tips

Don’t add water to the blender when making a coarse paste
