Kofta - soak the Chana Dal, wash the Potol or pointed gourd and cut the sides, grate and add to a bowl, add salt and set aside for 10 mins, extract the salt water and discard, add the grated Potol or Pointed Gourd to a bowl

Add the Chana Dal to blender with ginger and green chillies and make a paste, add that to the Potol and mix well, add salt and mix, make balls

In a pan heat mustard oil, add the balls and fry, set aside

Add potatoes and fry, set aside

In the sil batta add whole cumin, coriander seeds, green chillies, ginger and make a paste, set aside

Curry - in a pan heat mustard oil, add cinnamon stick, cloves, green cardamom, bay leaf, whole red chilli, stir for 5 seconds, add tomato paste, yoghurt and mix to cook well

Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt, sugar and mix well, cook till oil surfaces and add hot water, cover to cook

Add fried potatoes and cover to cook

Once potatoes are cooked, add Kofte and cook covered for 5 mins, sprinkle roasted cumin powder, set aside

Serve with steamed rice
Tips
Add roasted cumin powder as garnish
