The dry batter for this recipe can be prepared and stored in advance.
By combining oats and semolina (suji), I made these soft and flavorful Oats Rava Idlis — perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner at any time of the day.
Steps
- 1
Dry roast instant oats and make a fine powder in a mixer jar.
- 2
Heat up the pan, add 1 tbs oil
Add 1 tsp mustard seeds (rai) and cumin seeds, 1 tsp skinless black lentil (urad dal)
Add few curry leaves
Add roughly cut cashews
Stir it for 1-2 minutes. - 3
Then add 1 cup semolina (suji/rava)
Roast for 5 min on medium heat
Turn off the heat and add oats powder - 4
Mix it and transfer in a bowl
Add 1 cup curd (dahi)
Add 1/2 cup water
Mix it and rest for 10-15 min. - 5
Further add some veggies, finely chopped coriander, green chillies and shredded carrot.
- 6
Add salt to taste & mix everything well.
- 7
Add 1 tsp fruit salt (Eno)
(Before adding fruit salt keep idli moulds ready, greased with oil) - 8
For making these in a microwave oven, place the oats batter into microwave-safe idli moulds.
Keep the moulds inside a microwave-safe bowl and add a little water to the bowl. Cover it with a lid. - 9
Now place the bowl in the microwave oven and steam on full power for 3–4 minutes.
Once done, check with a knife or toothpick to see if the idlis are cooked properly. Carefully remove the moulds and take out idlis from it. - 10
Enjoy yumalicious oats & rava idli with sambar or coconut chutney.
Tips
Grind the roasted oats into a slightly coarse powder for soft yet fluffy idlis.
Let the batter rest for 10–15 minutes before steaming so the suji absorbs moisture properly.
Grease the idli moulds lightly with oil to prevent sticking.
