Chinese Sausage Rice with Fried Egg

One of my favorite kinds of meals are the ones that feel effortless but still comforting and special.

This is the kind of dish I can leave in the rice cooker before work, then come home to a warm, cozy dinner already waiting for me. Simple white rice, Chinese sausage, a crispy fried egg, and all the little toppings that make it feel extra comforting.

Maybe that’s why I love it so much — it reminds me of the kind of food my grandmother would make. Nothing overly complicated, just warm, filling, comforting food that makes home feel like home.

Ingredients

3 servings
  • 1.5 cups(uncooked) Jasmine or sticky rice
  • 2.25 cupsWater
  • 2Chinese sausages (lap cheong), sliced thinly
  • 1 tspthinly sliced Fresh ginger (optional)
  • 2chopped Green onions
  • 1 tbspSoy sauce
  • 0.5 tspSesame oil (optional)
  • 3Eggs
  • as neededSriracha
  • as neededSesame seeds
  • as neededChili flakes

Steps

    Rinse the rice 2–3 times until water runs clear. Drain well.

  2. 2

    Add rice and water to a rice cooker or pot.

  3. 3

    Place sausage slices and ginger on top of the uncooked rice.

  4. 4

    Cook: Rice cooker (standard cycle) or pot (boil, then cover and simmer on low 15 min, rest 5 min).

  5. 5

    Fluff rice, gently mix in sausage, soy sauce, sesame oil, and green onions.

  6. 6

    Heat a pan with oil until very hot. Fry eggs until whites are crispy and yolks remain creamy.

  7. 7

    Serve rice topped with a fried egg, Sriracha, sesame seeds, and chili flakes.

Tips

Using jasmine or sticky rice enhances the aroma and texture. Fry the eggs in a really hot oiled pan for crispy edges and creamy yolks.
