A South Indian food , that is made from rice flour. Here I used brown rice powder, this can be made with white rice too.
Steps
- 1
Measure the rice powder and keep it aside, with any bowl or cup of your convenience.
- 2
With the same cup measure water and start boiling in a skillet, add salt and oil to it.
- 3
When it boils very well, start adding the rice powder, keep stirring continuously, in a minute the mixture will thicken.
- 4
After it thickens, switch off the stove and put the skillet aside to cool down.
- 5
After it cools down, make a dough out of the rice mixture.
- 6
Use the idiyappam maker to make idiyappam, it is mostly available in Indian grocery stores.
- 7
The idiyappam dough is pressed using the above vessel, top it with some grated coconut and then put into a steamer.
- 8
It should be steamed for about 7-10 minutes.
- 9
Finally your diyappams are ready. This goes well with egg curry, chicken curry or mutton curry and can also be served with vegetable curries or stew.
