Ingredients

  • 1To pressure cook
  • 3/4 cupmasoor dal
  • 1/2 tspasafoetida powder
  • 1/2 tspturmeric powder
  • 1/4 tspfennel seed powdered
  • 1/4 tspcumin seed powdered
  • 2 cupswater
  • to tastesalt
  • 2To Garnish
  • 1 numbergreen chilli pepper slitted
  • 2 numberstomato chopped
  • 1 tspchopped ginger
  • 2 tspschopped garlic
  • 1 numberonions diced
  • 2 tspscoriander leaves chopped
  • 1/4 tspturmeric powder
  • 1/4 tspblack pepper ground
  • 1/2 tspgaram masala
  • 1/4 tspcumin powder
  • 2 tbspssunflower oil
  • 2 numbersclove
  • 2 numberscardamom
  • 1 numbercinnamon stick
  • to tastesalt

    Wash the dal. Add the ingredients 1 to pressure cooker. Keep it in medium flame.

  2. 2

    After the first whistle, keep for another 8 minutes in low flame. Switch it off and wait until the full pressure is released.

  3. 3

    Meanwhile, you can prepare the garnish.

  4. 4

    First, put the pan on the stove. Pour oil. When hot, add clove, cardamom, cinnamon, onion, garlic, ginger, chilli.

  5. 5

    Saute it until onion turn transparent and soft. Add the Masala mix and stir till the aroma of the masala comes out.

  6. 6

    To it add the tomatoes, stir until it is soft and the juices evapourate.

  7. 7

    Add a pinch of salt. Note that you have already added salt in pressure cooked ingredients. So add salt accordingly.

  8. 8

    To the pressure cooked dal, add the garnish and bring it to boil. Add coriander leaves.

  9. 9

    Now it is ready to be served. It goes well with Chapathi/roti/basmati rice.
