This is a traditional South African dish that has so many good memories for me. My mom used to make this dish for my family when I was little. This recipe is from the local cookbook 'Kook Saam Kaaps'.

Heat the oil in a heavy based pot and place the meat in the pot, cook the meat until brown. Remove the meat with a slotted spoon and set aside.

Add the onions to the pot and cook until translucent add the cinnamon sticks cook for 1 minute.

Add the meat back to the pot along with the beef stock and cook till soft

Add the canned tomatoes, tomato paste, garlic, cloves, bay leaves, Worcestershire sauce and potatoes, stir to combine. Cook until potatoes are soft.

Stir in the sugar to balance the acidity of the tomatoes. Add salt and pepper to taste

Serve with polenta or rice.
