Ingredients

62 Minutes
One standard baking pan
  1. 1 2/3 cupswalnuts (about 400 grams)
  2. 2.2 poundsphyllo dough (about 1 kilogram)
  3. 3 tablespoonsplain dry breadcrumbs
  4. 3 tablespoonssugar
  5. 1/2 teaspoonground cloves
  6. Olive oil for brushing the phyllo
  7. Syrup
  8. 3/4 cuphoney (about 250 grams)
  9. 3 cupssugar (about 600 grams)
  10. 2 cupswater (about 500 grams)
  11. 1 tablespoonbrandy
  12. Lemon peel

    Mix the walnuts, breadcrumbs, sugar, and ground cloves together.

    Start by layering four sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each one with olive oil. Then, sprinkle some of the walnut mixture on every second sheet, continuing until all the filling is used, reserving four sheets for the top. Be sure to brush each sheet with olive oil.

    Cut the baklava into your desired shapes and place a whole clove in the center of each piece.

    Bake in a preheated oven at 340°F (170°C) for about one hour.

    For the syrup, boil all the ingredients together for five minutes, then pour the hot syrup over the baklava.

    Pour the syrup over the baklava while both are still hot.
