#bandhan To celebrate the Rakhsa Bandhan, I cooked to my friends Indian yellow dal served with a choice of pulao or sourdough bread. A warm feast to welcome friends.
Steps

Soak channa dal and urad dal for 5 hours or overnight.

Boil the dal/lentil in enough water until soft texture.

Strain it and keep it aside.

In a pot, heat 3 tbsp oil, add the cumin seeds. Fry it for a minute.

Add chopped onion, tomatoes, stir it a minute. Add grated ginger and chili. Stir it.

Add the rest of spices: turmeric, cumin, coriander, red chili powder. Mix it well.

Add the boiled dal/lentil. add 1-2 cups of water and add salt.

Let it boil and mash the dal a little bit to thicken the sauce.

Add chopped fresh coriander. Serve it with rice or bread.

Peas Pulao: 1 cup cooked basmati rice, 1/4 tsp cumin seeds, 1/2 cups boiled peas.

In a pot, heat 1tbsp oil, fry the cumin seeds for a minute, add the cooked basmati rice and boiled peas. Mix it well and season it with salt.
