Ingredients

  1. 2 cupSifted flour
  2. 2 1/2 tspbaking powder
  3. 1/2 tspBaking soda
  4. 1/2 tspSalt
  5. 1 tbspSugar
  6. 1/2 cupButter
  7. 3/4 cupButtermilk
  8. 1** I added 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese and 4 chopped green onions ** This is step is optional.

Cooking Instructions

    Mix sifted flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar.

    Cut in butter until resembles course crumbs.

  3. 3

    With a fork, stir in buttermilk to make a soft dough. Dough will be sticky.

  4. 4

    Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead about 10 times.

  5. 5

    Roll out dough and and cut with biscuit cutter.

  6. 6

    Place on ungreased baking sheet and bake 15 minutes at 400°F.

I made these again just now with onions and shredded cheese. The first time I made them, they actually rose pretty high etc. Every time after the first attempt, they don't rise very much? All my ingredients are good etc., (haven't expired), so I'm stumped now lol. Today I barely kneaded them about 5 times, rolled them out thicker than usual, and again they didn't rise very much. They also never brown on top as in the picture.. Seems I'm doing so something wrong here.
